It's been three weeks since i left Mexico. So I've had three long weeks to think of how i might begin to put into words how cool this country is. And nope... Still no idea. Truth is i don think I'm cut out to tell you how cool Mexico is, i mean i spent three very, VERY short weeks there. People, that is not enough time. Mexico is not a small place, i would know i took two seventeen hour long bus rides cross country. Yes, you read that right, TWO. i obviously didn't feel like the first one was torturous enough. ROOKIE. If you care to read on, i'll try my best to give you some insight into Mexico.
So i started my time in Cancun. DO NOT GO THERE, unless A) you're an American teenager fresh out of high school, or B) you're an American teenager fresh out of high school, or C) all of the above. No offence to any American teenager reading this. Actually cancel that apology, there is definatly no American teenager reading my blog, who am i kidding. Cancun was not my favourite place, it was costly and pretty dull. It also gave me three days of hugging a toilet bowl. Not my finest moment. If you want some where that has the beach, the touristy activities and still some kind of "cancun" party scene, Playa Del Carmen may just be the place for you. I spent five days there. Playa is a little crowded with westerners, even in the off season (and yes i am also referring to myself when i say that) but its pretty central, so that's a win. Super easy to get to a bunch of different Cenotes and Mayan Ruins. My advice to you when it comes to seeing the ruins. Do your research, pick just a couple you want to see. I was surprised to learn there are actually quite a few ruin sites. Same goes for the Cenotes. There are a lot. But if you're a water baby like myself, go too as many as you can. Theres nothing like floating around in crystal clear water all day.
From Playa Del Carmen I literally caught a bus, just down the road to Tulum. Oh Tulum, how i wish i spent more time with you. Tulum was so so hot, and so so glorious. Rent a bike, almost any hostel or local will advise you to rent bikes, it's the easiest way to get around. I wouldn't say there is a whole lot to do in Tulum, except hang out by the beach, eat at a little street cart, or just check out the local Cenotes. Tulum is just refreshing. I got lucky one day after riding around 20ks I stumbled across a wide open beach lined with massive holiday homes, that were mostly un occupied. Nothing like a fresh shower after you've jumped out of the ocean. And then this is the part where i got on a seventeen hour bus ride. *gun emoji*. I stepped off the bus in San Cristobal. Nestled between some mountains. San Cristobal was chilly, a nice change from dripping sweat every day. SC is still a very traditional city. So if you are planning on going here. Scrub up on your Spanish, I know next to no Spanish. It was a challenge to communicate, but amusing none the less. Also, if you're into taking photo's, which most of us travellers are. Please keep in mind, the locals believe that if you take photos of them you are stealing their soul. Weather you believe this or not. Don't take the FUCKING photo. These people are humans just like you and me. Respect them and there beliefs. Also, not sorry for swearing. It was necessary. This part of Mexico also boasts some of the most beautiful waterfalls. It was also the first place i have seen a crocodile in the wild. I know, strange. And lastly Mexico city. But you must wait for Mexico City, as i have no photos to complement my writing. You'll find out why soon enough.
